Jeff is originally from upstate New York where he started playing volleyball as an outside hitter in high school. Directly after graduating high school Jeff shipped off to boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. As a Marine, Jeff was selected to compete with the All-Marine volleyball team for three years as an outside hitter and defensive specialist. In 2004 and 2005 Jeff deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom III”. Jeff started his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant for the Makai Wahine in Havelock, NC. Jeff left active duty in 2006 and moved to Raleigh where he became a coach for Triangle Volleyball Club until 2010. Jeff started coaching for NC Elite in 2011 and remained until 2020 when he founded Valor Volleyball Club. Jeff started coaching high school volleyball at Athens Drive as head JV coach and continued at Middle Creek as the Varsity head coach for 3 consecutive successful seasons. Jeff was chosen by the Carolina region to head coach the High-Performance boy’s national team for two consecutive seasons. Jeff served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division 2 Brevard College, NCAA Division 3 Peace College, NJCAA Division 2 Wake Tech and NJCAA Division 3 Central Carolina CC. Jeff has degrees in CNC Machining, Welding Technologies and Computer aided drafting and design. Jeff has left the metal work behind to spend his days training multi purpose Working K9s and pets. Jeff also works as an Explosive Detection K9 handler certified with the International Police Work Dog Association. In his spare time he likes to play Frisbee with his beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd "Mia". Jeff has recently added a new addition to the pack, a 1 year old German Shepherd rescue "Saga".
Coach Grayson is taking on more responsability this season in her new role as Director of Athlete and Coach Development. Coach Grayson grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, and now lives in Raleigh with her 3-year-old chocolate lab named Molly. She played four years of varsity volleyball at East Chapel Hill High School, three years at Triangle, and three years at NC Elite where she played her last season for Jeff. Grayson was recruited to play volleyball at the University of Chicago but left the team in her freshman season following an injury. During her time in college, Grayson studied Biology and Environmental Science in Chicago, spent four months in Cape Cod studying at the Marine Biological Laboratory, and lived and worked in Costa Rica for six months as a SCUBA diving instructor. She coached middle school volleyball at the University of Chicago Lab School, then joined the staff at Valor after moving back to North Carolina. Grayson coached the 16 Alpha team during the 2021-2022 season and will be serving as a head coach and the Club Director for the 2022-2023 season. Grayson now works in the mortgage industry as her company's Operations Manager for new branches as well as her own branch in Raleigh. In her free time, she likes to read, spend time outside, and go swimming with her dog.
Coach Bailey is originally from Raleigh, NC. She played club volleyball for 4 years and coached 1 year at NC Elite. She attended Cardinal Gibbons High School and graduated in 2016 and went on to graduate college from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science this past summer. She loves helping anyone to learn and make healthier decisions along with working out and living an overall healthy lifestyle. She hopes to influence all of her athletes and even their families to fuel their bodies in the best way possible on and off the court! This will be Coach Baileys second season with Valor.
Hallie is from Holley Springs NC and has lived there all of her life. She started her volleyball career at 8 years old at the Kraft YMCA in Holly Springs. She continued there until she was 12 where she started playing club volleyball at NC Elite. She played her 13s at Triangle and then returned to NC Elite for her 14s and 15s year. Hallie specialized in hitting as an outside and right side hitter and occasionally passed in the back row as well. She played for Middle Creek High School on Varsity her freshman and sophomore year in which she was also chosen to be a team captain where she helped lead her team into the state playoffs. She also received the high honor of the schools “Mustang Award” as a sophomore. Hallie helps those in need by tutoring 2 or more times a week and she is involved in American Red Cross, Student Government, National Achievers Society, Women’s Empowerment, Amnesty and Social Justice Club. Hallie played for Coach Jeff both years at Middle Creek High School and she understands and exemplifies that focus, effort and working together is what it takes to succeed. Hallie is thrilled for the opportunity to be part of Valor Volleyball led by her former coach, Coach Jeff. Off the court, you can find her working out, running, hanging out with her family and friends and playing with her dog Lexi.
Kate Carswell joins the Valor Volleyball ranks with enthusiasm and energy. Kate has played as an outside hitter and defensive specialist. She values discipline and hard work but above all else, she values teamwork. Kate graduated from Apex high school where she played all 4 years and served as team captain 2 of those 4 years. Kate was awarded one of the most coveted awards, the “Most Valuable Player” award as a freshman. She started her volleyball career over 10 years ago at NC Kat. Shortly after, she began playing for NC Elite where she met Coach Jeff. She played for him for her 14’s year and continued private lessons with him throughout the next year with the goal of making a national team. The following year Kate made a team at Triangle Volleyball club where she finished out the final 2 years of her club playing career. In 2019 Kate was awarded Triangles “Most Valuable Player” award. Coach Jeff’s philosophy of working hard and keeping a positive mindset enabled Kate to meet and exceed her athletic and personal goals. Kate has coached skills camps with NC Academy Volleyball Club under the well known Coach Hudak. Kate also volunteers with Gigis Playhouse teaching volleyball to adults with down’s syndrome. Kate has worked with Valor Volleyball Club since its inception in an administrative capacity but is extremely excited for the opportunity to start coaching athletes. Kate is currently attending the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University majoring in business with an ultimate goal of a career in Sports marketing.
Logan has been an avid volleyball player since age 10. In 2019-20, Logan was the starting setter and team captain for NC Academy’s 16 Pearl National team. She previously played on 3 AAU teams and 2 National teams for NC Elite including 15 Black who competed at USAV Nationals. Logan has also participated on Southern Sand Beach Club teams. Club coach awards like Most Cheerful, Most Versatile and Most Improved Player reflect her passion for playing while the Strong Arm Award let’s you know she has a wicked jump serve. Logan is a junior at Cary High School. She served as JV team captain and was awarded offensive player of the year for 66 aces, 252 assists and 113 digs during her sophomore season at Cary High School. Logan has assisted Coach Jeff for 4 years and is 2020 IMPACT Certified. Logan enjoys reading, art, bike riding and plays a mean game of ping pong. She has an older brother who plays tennis and rock climbs and attends NCSU. The family cats are named Kerri and Misty after the Olympic duo.
Coach Marteen comes to us excited to get back to coaching volleyball after a brief hiatus due to the pandemic. She is a Raleigh native where she started her volleyball career at Leesville High School. Marteen brings 11 years of combined volleyball experience and almost 4 years of volunteer work with our communities’ youth. After high school Marteen was recruited as a middle blocker by North Carolina A&T State University where she played for 3 years. During that time she found the needed balance between athletics and academics receiving several MEAC Academic Honors and NCAT Student Athlete Awards. In Marteens most recent experience she coached alongside Coach Jeff with his 16u National team and then went on to coach her own 16 and 18u developmental teams. Marteen is actively involved in her community and is a mentor for the Butterflies mentorship program for young women in Greensboro and Raleigh. In her free time she enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and spending time with friends.
